‘Australia’s national architecture awards 2014 – in pictures‘, Guardian Australia, 7 November 2014
The Australian Institute of Architects has named the winners of the country’s top architectural awards. The biggest winner is Brisbane’s UQ Advanced Engineering Building by Richard Kirk Architect and Hassell, in a joint venture, taking the public architecture, interior architecture and sustainable architecture categories. Other projects to be honoured include the upgrade of Sydney’s Prince Alfred Park and pool for urban design and the White Bay Cruise Terminal for commercial architecture. A house at Hanging Rock, Victoria, picked up the best new residential architecture award.
Architecture is not just a means of expression and a way of forming what Le Corbusier called ‘machines for living in’ (he was referring just to houses) but also a series of statements about ‘people like us’. The article contains 14 photographs of houses and surf clubs, shipping terminals and pubs.
