Schultz, Julianne et al.: Looking to New Zealand

Schultz, Julianne

‘Looking east’, Griffith Review, 43, January 2014

The author, born in New Zealand but now based in Australia, introduces an edition of Griffith Review devoted to New Zealand and titled ‘Pacific highways.

The dream of a united Australasia encompassing Australia and New Zealand may have withered in the nineteenth century, but the sense of interchangeability lingers – like cousins who keep in touch, but keep a distance – bumptious and pushy city types on the western shores of the Tasman, versus the kids from the bush on the east.

The articles in this number of the journal facilitate an understanding of people who make up an important part of Australian as well as New Zealand culture and society.
