Das Potsdamer Abkommen (The Potsdam Agreement) 1945–2015, Peter Lang, Bern, 2017

The book’s subtitle, ‘Rechtliche Bedeutung Und Historische Auswirkungen’, translates from the German as ‘Legal Meaning and Historical Impact’ and this is an accurate summary of the volume’s contents. The book comprises eleven of the twelve papers delivered at an international conference commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Potsdam Conference. Five of the articles (the key ones) are in English, the remainder in German, with summary translations in English.

The Potsdam Conference was held at the Cecilienhof Castle in Potsdam, Germany, from 17 June to 2 August 1945 and was attended by the leader of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin, new United States President Harry S. Truman and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and, later, his successor Clement Attlee.

Editor-author Christoph Koch is Professor of Comparative and Indo-European Linguistics at the Free University of Berlin and Chairman of the German-Polish Society of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The book is reviewed for Honest History by Jurgen Tampke. Extracts from the book.
