James Brown elected as president of NSW RSL

Author and commentator James Brown has been elected president of the New South Wales Branch of the Returned and Services League. Brown, now at the University of Sydney and formerly with the Lowy Institute, is a retired Captain in the Australian Army, and author of Anzac’s Long Shadow (a virtual ‘founding document’ of the Honest History enterprise) and the Quarterly Essay, Firing Line: Australia’s Path to War.

Brown has taken firm positions against extravagant Anzac commemoration spending and has been an active supporter of the Soldier On organisation. He has supported recent moves to ‘clean up’ the RSL’s NSW Branch.
