My erstwhile institution, the National Museum of Australia, has just opened an exhibition, Glorious Days, which explores the Australia of 1913. It shows how on the eve of what became the Great War Australia was an optimistic and progressive democracy, a ‘paradise’ for working people, as long as they were white, of course. Read more…
