‘Gladys Berejiklian, the Great War, Gallipoli and the Armenian Genocide‘, Independent Australia, 30 January 2017
Marks the election of Australia’s first premier of Armenian ethnicity. Ms Berejiklian’s grandparents were among those liberated by Allied forces in 1918, surviving the Armenian Genocide, in which more than a million Armenians died at the hands of the Ottomans.
Vicken Babkenian is the co-author with Professor Peter Stanley of Armenia, Australia and the Great War (NewSouth Publishing, 2016). The book has been shortlisted for the 2016 Queensland Literary Award for History and the NIB Australian Military History Prize. Vicken Babkenian and Judith Crispin have a chapter in The Honest History Book, out in April. The chapter is called ’24 April 1915: Australia’s Armenian story over a century’.
