Australia. Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

FOI disclosure log reference nos 15/25024 and others, Freedom of Information

This material was disclosed under FOI to Vache Kahramanian on behalf of the Armenian National Committee of Australia. Reference number 15/25024 is a DFAT briefing note for Additional Estimates on 26 February 2015. It covers two questions ‘Why does the Australian Goverment refuse to recognise the Armenian “genocide”?’, ‘Is the Government’s approach motivated by a desire not to offend Turkey as we approach the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign?’

Earlier material sought under FOI on related subjects can be found by searching the log. The Hansard for Additional Estimates has no entries for ‘Armenia’ or ‘genocide’. Also note: the reaction of the Australian Turkish Advocacy Alliance to the FOI release, including a link to the contents of the letter to the ATAA from the Foreign Minister; Honest History resources on the Armenian genocide.
