ABC News: Australian War Memorial director Brendan Nelson to step down from top job at end of year

ABC News

Australian War Memorial director Brendan Nelson to step down from top job at end of year‘, ABC News, 15 August 2019

Covers announcement by Director to staff, announcement by Minister, statement by Leader of the Opposition. An end date 0f 31 December had been gazetted some time ago, though the Director had hedged his bets somewhat in remarks in Senate Estimates in February this year (page 158). Canberra Times story. Doug Dingwall commentary. The Riot ACT. Alan Jones interview.

The departure does not affect the Memorial’s expansion plans, as the Minister confirmed. The search for a successor has commenced. Note speculation that former Prime Minister Abbott is to join the Memorial Council. (Honest History wondered if he might become Director.)

Honest History has closely followed Dr Nelson’s tenure (see our Search engine). Honest History wishes him well in the future.
