Recollections of a Bleeding Heart: A Portrait of Paul Keating PM, Knopf, Milson’s Point, NSW, 2002; later editions

A view of 13 years of Australian history from the perspective of a prime ministerial speech writer. It contains a brief description of Keating’s Kokoda visit (pp. 181-84) and an even briefer one of his Unknown Australian Soldier speech (pp. 252-53). Keating’s Redfern speech on Indigenous reconciliation is also covered (pp. 288-91). Reviews are here and here. Noel Pearson launched the book and used the occasion to attack aspects of Indigenous policy. The author talks about the book some years later here.
