Sweetman, Terry

Opinion: Great War orgy of remembrance high in cost, low on inclusion for Australians‘, Sunday Mail (Brisbane), 24 July 2016

Veteran columnist is provoked by Fromelles-Pozieres commemoration into questioning the whole commemoration extravaganza. He uses Honest History estimates of the cost ($561 million and counting) and looks at electorate spending and the Monash museum at Villers-Bretonneux, both of which have been matters of interest to Honest History. He makes a couple of points not often made: the preponderance of dignitaries (governors, generals, officials) at overseas commemorations; the superfluity of the Monash museum in view of the cemeteries and memorials already existing.
