Honest History VP Alison Broinowski on QandA tonight

Honest History vice president Alison Broinowski will be a panellist on the ABC’s QandA this evening at 9.35 pm Eastern. Other panellists are former foreign minister Bob Carr, the Lowy Institute’s Michael Fullilove, Emily Howie from the Human Rights Law Centre and Sow Keat Tok from the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies.

No doubt current events related to the South China Sea will be one of the topics of discussion. Honest History has been following these events during the year and this material is accessible here. It includes the text of last week’s media conference of Australian ministers and their United States counterparts.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Bishop gave a speech today which seemed fairly balanced on China-related issues. Historic Australian themes of fear of Asia and reliance on allies are being both reinforced and tested in the South China Sea.

Alison Broinowski has written many articles and books (and edited books) on foreign policy and related subjects, for example, the edited collection Double Vision: Asian Accounts of Australia, republished in 2011 and available in full online. Dr Broinowski also edited a recent book of articles seeking reform of how Australia goes to war. Dr Broinowski is one of Honest History’s distinguished supporters.
