A review of Reality in flames at the Australian War Memorial, Heroes and villians: William Strutt’s Australia at the National Library of Australia and Portraits of the famous & infamous: Rex Nan Kivell collection, also at the NLA. Reality in flames is about Australian modern art during World War II, the Strutt exhibition shows how an Englishman came to Australia for a decade then painted it for the rest of his life, and the Nan Kivell show indicates the importance of obsessive collecting, in this case, collecting of portraits.
