Eureka Street Plus gets under way with Father Frank Brennan on the Uluru Statement

Eureka Street has been around for a long time as a thoughtful, judicious commentator on affairs, with a special interest in religious matters. (It is a publication of Jesuit Communications Australia.)

Eureka Street Plus proposes to deliver bi-monthly essays, roundtables, stray thoughts, community forums, and book corner. Subscription fees are modest.

The first bi-monthly essay comes from Father Frank Brennan SJ. Father Brennan has been closely involved in the Indigenous Voice co-design process, and his essay is titled, ‘The Uluru Statement, the Constitution and the election’.

Whoever is Prime Minister after the election on May 21 [Father Brennan says], he will need to address the question of Indigenous recognition in the Australian Constitution. This is the sixth election in a row when the question has been a live, unresolved issue during the election campaign. The patience of Indigenous leaders is understandably wearing thin. Trust is waning. There is still no clear path ahead. So where to from here?
