Describes the visits to Australia of Trollope, novelist and said to be our first celebrity blow-in. He ‘found Australian pride could be easily hurt’ but we were good at ‘blowing’ or boasting. After his death, he received cool eulogies in the colonies. Mark Twain seems to have liked Australia more and his feelings were returned.
