James Brown’s Quarterly Essay, Firing Line: Australia’s Path to War, is launching during June and July in Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Sydney. Dates from 16 June and bookings are required in all venues. Details.

James Brown investigates Australia at war. Going to war may be the gravest decision a nation and its leaders make. At the moment, Australia is at war with the Islamic State. How do we decide to go to war? Where might we go to war in the future? Will we get that decision right? What are we willing to fight for? (blurb)

James Brown was at the Lowy Institute and is now at the University of Sydney. He is the author of Anzac’s Long Shadow, has been a vocal critic of some of Australia’s commemorative spending priorities and is a strong supporter of the Soldier On organisation.
