Craig Stockings appointed as official historian for Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of Anzac, the Hon. Stuart Robert MP, has announced the appointment of Dr Craig Stockings of UNSW Canberra as the Official Historian for the engagements in Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor. (The Minister has not yet posted the media release on his website but we will link to it as soon as it appears.)

Dr Stockings is the author of a number of books (most recently Britannia’s Shield: Lieutenant-General Sir Edward Hutton and Late Victorian Imperial Defence), editor of two myth-busting collections on war history, Zombie Myths of Australian Military History (2010) and Anzac’s Dirty Dozen: 12 Myths of Australian Military History (2012) and co-editor with John Connor of Before the Anzac Dawn: A Military History of Australia to 1915 (2013).

Dr Stockings will take up his appointment in July. He will be based at the Australian War Memorial.
